By the time they were set up in the square the tourists were arriving, giving the background a good vibe, but it wasn’t yet inundated with the travelers.

Carrie gave her first part a dry run, deemed it good, and went on to videotape it. When she and Oscar were setting up for the next shot in another area of the campo Lucy made her excuses to leave for a short errand.

The other three all gave her knowing looks. Hester asked if she needed any help on her errand.

She started to turn down the offer, but remembering her need for a translator, said, “Sure, if you want. Just in case I get lost and can’t find my way back.”

“When should we expect you back?” Oscar asked.

“We’ll be back before you finish all your shots here. Remember to meet with the priest before you start the interior shots.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“Keep him in line please, Carrie.”

“Yeah, no problem. See you.”

Lucy turned and strode toward the canal and its little, narrow walkway, with Hester following. This time Lucy knew exactly where she was going.
